Tebaldi and Elias sing this great duet from Ponchielli's opera, La
Gioconda. Live peformance at the Met, on April 15th, 1967. Conducted by Fausto
Cleva.
The excellent Australian tenor, Raymond Nilsson, went to London in 1947 and
debuted at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in 1952 where his roles included
Rodolfo, Alfredo, Don José and Pandarus in Walton's TROILUS & CRESSIDA. His
operatic career took to houses in the USA, Holland and Germany. We see him here
in a scene from the 1956 BBC broadcast of Menotti's THE SAINT OF BLEECKER
STREET with the glorious American mezzo, Rosalind Elias. The orchestra is
conducted by Thomas Schippers.
